If your VHF radio has weak or distorted reception, check these items in order:

Water inside your antenna is the most common cause of failure. It corrodes internal elements, degrades performance, and often isn't visible from the outside.
Prevention: Scout's foam-filled construction seals out moisture at the manufacturing level. If you have a hollow antenna, inspect it regularly and consider upgrading to a foam-filled model.
